In the week ending October 17th, the number of seasonally adjusted new unemployment claims was 259,000, 3,000 higher than the revised figure for the previous week which was 256,000.
However, the four week moving average came in at the lowest level since December 15th 1973, at 263,250, a drop of 2,000 from the previous weeks moving average.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment figure for the week ending October 10th 2,170,000 which was 6,000 higher than the previous week. However, the four week moving average was down by 18,500 on the previous week at 2,184,500 which is the lowest figure since November 18th 2000.
